Background
Wednesday, June 17, the Coalition of Chief State School Officials (CCSSO) and the National Governors Association (NGA) Center for Best Practices held a meeting of the National Forum on the Common Core State Standards Initiative. New Mexico was represented at this meeting.
The initial convening of this group in January was one of the first official steps in the initiative. The role of the National Forum is to establish a shared understanding of the scope and elements of the common core state standards initiative and to support CCSSO and the NGA Center in coordinating implementation and adoption of the standards. Participants in the National Forum are national organizations representing education, business, and civil rights interests along with any group or individual who expresses interest in learning more about this initiative.
Over 75 participants attend the forum and were very pleased with the input, feedback, and overall participation of the group. There were two documents shared, and they are attached to this message:
