WHAT: In front of an overflowing ballroom, an exceptional New Mexico teacher was honored with a $25,000 Milken Educator Award during an inspiring Awards Dinner and Ceremony hailed as the “Oscars of Teaching” by Teacher Magazine. Held on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Sheraton Delfina Hotel in Santa Monica, California, the awards ceremony was a highlight of the Milken Educator Forum, one of America’s premier education events, which joins top teachers with education reform leaders to share successful strategies for strengthening our nation’s K-12 school system. First presented in 1987, the Milken Educator Awards represent the nation’s preeminent teacher recognition program in the U.S., having bestowed more than 2,400 outstanding educators with $60 million in unrestricted cash awards.
