Milken Educator Awards

Secondary educator from Albuquerque among 54 teachers receiving Milken Educator Awards at inspiring ceremony

WHO: Tammy Dunham, Teacher, Van Buren Middle School

WHAT: In front of an overflowing ballroom, an exceptional New Mexico teacher was honored with a $25,000 Milken Educator Award during an inspiring Awards Dinner and Ceremony hailed as the “Oscars of Teaching” by Teacher Magazine. Held on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Sheraton Delfina Hotel in Santa Monica, California, the awards ceremony was a highlight of the Milken Educator Forum, one of America’s premier education events, which joins top teachers with education reform leaders to share successful strategies for strengthening our nation’s K-12 school system. First presented in 1987, the Milken Educator Awards represent the nation’s preeminent teacher recognition program in the U.S., having bestowed more than 2,400 outstanding educators with $60 million in unrestricted cash awards. A photo of the New Mexico teacher receiving a $25,000 check from Milken Family Foundation Co-Founders Lowell and Michael Milken is available online for download.
