Math and Science Education

New Mexico Mathematics, Engineering Science Achievement (NM MESA) Inc., a non-profit organization, promotes educational enrichment for middle and high school students from historically under-represented ethnic groups. NM MESA, in partnership with schools and universities, prepares these pre-college students for college and careers in mathematics, engineering, science and related fields.  You can learn more about NM MESA by clicking http://www.nmmesa.org/ or phoning 505-366-2500. 

The New Mexico Regional Science Bowl is an academic competition for students in grades 6 through 8 that tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science. Middle school students are quizzed in a fast-paced question and answer forum. Teams are comprised of up to four students, one alternate, and a teacher/coach (required).  You can learn more about the regional science bowl by clicking http://community.lanl.gov/08sciencecompetition.shtml.

The New Mexico Science and Engineering Fair accepts the top exhibits from the six regional science fairs in the state.  It is held each April on the campus of New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro.   Its objectives are to recognize and reward excellence in science, mathematics and engineering projects carried out by junior high and high school students from throughout the state.   Winners at the state level compete in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) held in a major city every May.  You can learn more about the fair by clicking http://infohost.nmt.edu/~science/fair/
