Frequently Asked Questions about the New Mexico Public Education Department

Student Testing

  • Is New Mexico considering utilizing WorkKeys in its assessment program?

The Public Education Department is in the process of developing the state’s Electronic Student Management System for students in grade 11 to gauge workplace/postsecondary readiness.  This would include multiple measures, including ACT/SAT, state-developed items/tasks, existing workplace readiness assessments (e.g., WorkKeys), school-based activities (projects), workplace performance (internships, after-school jobs, service learning), end-of-course exams, AP exam scores, leadership/management skills and grades/transcripts.

The Electronic Student Management System will be the repository for student scores on the New Mexico standards-based 11th-grade assessment, college readiness (placement) assessments and workforce readiness assessments. It will be an online system, enabling student records to reside in a central electronic system, allowing access for district staff and students despite any mobility between schools and districts.

The proposals for the Workforce Readiness Assessment RFP are being evaluated now.  WorkKeys is one of the assessments that was offered.  The Evaluation Committee is evaluating the proposals using the RFP criteria to select an offeror/assessment that best meets the requirements of the RFP.  The Electronic Student Management System is in the development stage and will include scores from the Workforce Readiness Assessment that is selected for contract.
